Standard 1: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.
For logistical and scheduling purposes, I was not placed in an Art Class at Boltz Middle School, however it was still a valuable learning experience as I realized that learning how to manage a classroom, establishing rapport with students and developing a positive class culture are skills that are just as important to develop as expertise in content. However, I still managed to add artistic touches throughout my contributions in the social studies class, this connects with Element B of Teacher Quality Standard 1. I've included photos of examples of 3D land forms and bodies of water I created to help students with a project they were assigned in which they had to a certain number of 3D land forms and bodies of water. I created these models to help add creativity to the approaches students were taking to making these components using as little material and as little paint as possible to help save make the most of limited resources.
I was unfortunately not able to teach a lesson before the quarantine began but I still created the lesson plan which also includes an art connection. My lesson involved covering important cultural, geographical and historical facts about Mexico and as a part of my lesson I include a brief overview on the Mayan Empire which concluded with creating a talisman sculpted out of modeling clay that students could decorate as a personal signifier. This demonstrates abilities of Element C of Teacher Standard 1.
