Giacometti Sculptures

Giacometti.jpg

Description

As a class, we explored Giacometti Sculptures to create full body self portraits in sculpture form. Up to this point, we had been scaffolding on forming and shaping animals, masks, hot air balloons, etc. In this lesson, they explored forming and shaping the human form as well as learning about a historical artist that did not sculpt in naturalistic style.

Essential Understandings

The essential understandings for this project were for students to implement the problem-solving skills that they have built throughout previous lessons to form and shape using pipe cleaners and aluminum foil. This facilitated the creating of form that represents movement and expression.

Skills

  • Learn how different materials can be used to make human forms

  • Creating dynamic poses

  • Using foil in a was that is not traditional

  • Continue to use building techniques previously learned in class

  • Learn about an artist who had an impact on the art world.
