bio: Priscilla is a nontraditional/second career student at Colorado State University in pursuit of her Bachelor of Art Education. Her background is in breastfeeding support and was a Certified Lactation Counselor for over eight years prior to attending CSU. While at CSU, she fell in love with metalsmithing and plans on continuing to learn and grown in this medium. Being a bicultural Mexican-American woman, she is committed to culturally responsive teaching and making sure her students understand that art and creating should become a lifelong practice and not just a fun class. Such a mindset has brought creativity into her everyday life while at the same time bringing her everyday life into her art. Through this multifaceted approach Priscilla is defining her own style, a daunting but exciting process that has only reinforced her passion for the medium. She is the proud mother of two witty and kind boys, and the loving wife to an incredibly supportive husband.

artist statement: I find inspiration in my roots and heritage back on the border of El Paso, TX and Ciudad Juarez, Chih. My art is colorful and carries a lot of symbolism. I consider art a powerful tool to communicate without words, beyond the barriers of language, culture, space and time that may sometimes get in the way of conveying a message. Immigration, feminism, and family are recurring themes in my art and are anchors that provide direction for my voice as an artist. My designs are also influenced by extensive research of the metalsmithing techniques I employ, as well as research in other areas of interest, including history, the flight patterns of monarch butterflies, and the anatomical heart. If there is anything I have learned during Covid era, it's not to take anything or anyone for granted. I try to express love and gratitude often not only in my work but directly to the recipients of my love and friendship.
